Meet Declan:
Camp Meridian Camper

Stronghearts provides support and supplies for two campers to attend Camp Meridian over Memorial Day weekend in October.  Camp Meridian's mission is to provide a challenging adventure of self-discovery through a series of unique, fun-filled, guided activities allowing the children to realize their own untapped potential.   Doctors and nurses are present making it a safe camp option for children with congenital heart defects.

Declan has attended Camp Meridian for the past 5 years and he hopes to be a counselor.  He is diagnosed with Atypical Shone’s Syndrome  which has meant a series of 5 open heart surgeries in his 12 years of life.  Declan was described by camp staff as wonderful with the younger children.

What Declan likes about Camp Meridian is being with other people who are like him.  He enjoys rock climbing, hikes and playing games.  This year he really enjoyed the Great Merlin theme.  He especially likes the counselors.  At home, Declan enjoys playing outside and baseball.  He also plays instruments like the bass and tuba.  Declan’s mother described herself as “blessed” many times as she told their story of strength, hope, courage and gratitude.
